Ready for His Furever Home
It's been about 4 or 5 weeks and Gene has settled in amazingly. You'd think he was one of my pack. He has our schedule and the rules and regs of the house down pat. He knows whose bowl is whose (and not to eat anyone else's food), he knows that there are no dogs in my kitchen, no potty in the house and even when snack time is. He gives me a good staring every night right around 9 for that one.
What have I learned about Gene these past few weeks? That he is still a puppy that loves to have fun. He is sweet and relaxed most of the time, but he loves a good play time with a squeaky toy daily, as well. If you're not the playful type though, no worries, he's content to play with you or with himself. I've learned he also loves to chase frisbees, too. Just don't expect his to bring it back to you :)
Gene has adopted the chaise as his bed. Every night at bed time he climbs up on it and gives me that "please let me stay look." No need to imagine what that "look" looks like. I've got it for you right here:

Gene, The Newest Member of Your Family?
We all do it. Walk in the door after work simply exhausted, wanting nothing more than a pick me up after that long day. Imagine opening your door to Gene! Every day I come home and he greets me at the door, tail wagging and ready to give love. There is just something about that feeling that makes you want to come back for more, day after day.
Once you let Gene into your home, your heart won't be far behind. He is a special pup that you can't help but smile at. He has that nose nudge that just says "hey, it'll be okay, you'll always have me" and when you look into his eyes, you know it's true. His loyalty will be solid. He wants to be the best pet in the whole world. He wants to be your best friend, always and forever.
If this is the kind of pup you're looking for, Gene is exactly the pup for you. He will love you unconditionally and lay his head in your lap through the hard times. He will make you laugh at his antics and make you want to wrap your arms around him in a giant hug for the smile he put in your heart. Gene is one amazing, fun-loving dog that would make any home complete. Don't miss out on your opportunity to take this special boy home.

Blending in is the Name of the Game
Getting ready for bed tonight, walk into the bedroom and this is what I see.
Does he think that if he lays next to the other fawn dog I won't notice he is not in his crate? I stand by my previous assessment...Gene just wants to fit in with the rest of the pups. Look at that face! It screams "just love me!".

Gene Just Wants To Be One Of The Gang!
All Gene dog wants to do is be one of the gang. He has picked up our routine really quickly...last night at bed time I said "bed time" and he ran upstairs with the other two and proceeded to jump into Sparks' bed in my bedroom. It took some coaxing to get him up and into the crate. This morning, when it was time to go, he ran upstairs and did the same thing all over again. He looks so comfy there. He just wants to be one of the gang. Everyone else gets to lie in the good beds all day, why can't he?! That is the look on his face every time I make him get into his crate. I feel soooooo bad. He has this look that says "but mommy, I'll be good, I promise!" Frankly, that look is so darn adorable that I believe him.
Gene is an incredibly bright pup. Letting him to to his furever home is going to be extremely difficult for me. He is melting this foster mom's heart, quickly.

Gene Has Arrived!
Gene arrived in Hampton Roads Sunday. After a relaxing car ride, he was ready to get into the house and meet his new foster brothers. How exciting! Introductions went well and all are getting along like they've always been together. I think Gene is thrilled to have other pups to play with. Gene poked around the house and checked out all the beds, the kitchen was thoroughly sniffed over, the fireplace...with that reflective glass door...who is that other puppy in there?? Stairs...those tricky things, took a few times, but as soon as he realized that the rest of the pups were at the top, playing, he just HAD to know what was going on up there, so barreling up (clumsy as it gets), he came. All the new smells and rooms upstairs! He was all over the place, sniffing and checking everything out all over again. Then he saw it...the stuffy! Unfortunately, said stuffy was the Philly Phanatic, NOT a play stuffy (but who can blame him, it was at "Gene height", staring his right in the eyes, saying "PLAY WITH ME!!"). Poor Gene. I must applaud him though, he was told "no" and he dropped it immediately. Good puppy! For the remainder of the night though, Gene kept coming back to the room to check on Mr. Phanatic...just to be sure no one was changing their minds on the toy. He never once picked it up again though...made foster mommy VERY proud!
Today being Monday, work and school schedules kicked in this morning. I got up a little earlier just to be sure Gene could handle the tight time table we worked on. He aced it. Out of the crate, straight downstairs, out to potty, back in for breakfast, out again and back to the crate in record time. Fast learner, this one!
So far, Gene seems to just be a pup that has missed love and attention. All he wants is to be retired, lie on the best dog bed in the house and get snuggled regularly. This guy is going to be one loving, dedicated pup to the right home. He'll melt your heart in no time at all. He's already got my walls breaking down and he's only been here for 2 days. If you're looking for a playful sweetie, Gene may just be your guy.
